Waterford add Patrick McClean and three more familiar faces

Waterford FC have announced the acquisition of four players to the squad ahead of the 2017 SSE Airtricity League First Division season. The quartet of Patrick McClean, Matthew Connor, Gary Delaney and Anthony McAlavey have put pen to paper for The Blues.

Folowing the announcement yesterday of Pat Fenlon as Director of Football and Alan Reynolds as new Head Coach, The Blues have wasted no time in acquiring options for the new season.

McClean, the younger brother of the Republic of Ireland star James, has moved from Derry City to the RSC.

The 20-year-old is a versatile defender by trade. He made 13 appearances for The Candystripes last season.

Connor returns to the club following brief stints with Wexford Youths and Cork City. The 19-year-old has been capped by the Republic of Ireland at Under-17 and Under-18 level, which could also prove to be a welcome addition to The Blues on their quest for promotion.

Also making his return to the club is defender Delaney, having spent part of the 2014 season with The Blues. Having won the First Division title with Wexford in 2015, Delaney doesn’t lack experience when it comes to gaining promotion from the First Division.

McAlavey returns for his third season at the club. A midfielder by trade, McAlavey joined having joined from Rockmount ahead of the 2015 season and has made 44 appearances to date.
