Laura Heffernan returns to Wexford Youths as first team manager

Wexford Youths Women have announced the appointment of Laura Heffernan as the club's new first team manager.

Heffernan is a familiar face around Ferrycarrig Park having represented the club both as a player and as assistant manager to title-winning manager Will Doyle.

She replaces outgoing manager Gary Hunt, who took over for the 2016 short season following Doyle's departure at the end of 2015-16.

The 32-year-old returns to the club having spent the past year working as a full time coach with Abbey Villa SC in Massachussetts.

The Wexford native was a member of the Youths squad for the inaugural season of the Women's National League in 2011-12, having played for a number of clubs around the county including North End United.

She played with Youths for three seasons before finishing her player career at the end of 2013-14, signing off as the club won their first-ever trophy, the WNL Cup, with a win over Castlebar United.

UEFA B License-holder Heffernan also worked as the club's general manager, video analyst and schoolgirls co-ordinator during her first spell at Ferrycarrig Park.
