Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers the pick of the round as 2017 SSE Airtricity League of Ireland fixtures released

Champions Dundalk will begin their quest for a record-equalling four-in-a-row at home to Shamrock Rovers, the only club to achieve the feat thusfar, on Friday, February 24th.

 

The fixture will be added further spice by Ronan Finn will return to the club he won successive titles with as Rovers captain having confirmed his move back to Tallaght on Tuesday.

 

Other highlights of the opening weekend include the trip of Bray Wanderers to St Patrick's Athletic and First Division champions Limerick wlecoming Sligo Rovers to the Markets Field.

 

Bohemians will host Derry City and Galway United recently-promoted Drogheda United, while FAI Cup holders Cork City face an arduous journey north to Ballybofey to face Finn Harps.

 

All but one of those games will take place on the opening Friday, with Limerick set to continue to play home games in their regular Saturday evening slot.

 



The Hoops are again involved in the pick of the second round games as they host bitter Dublin rivals Bohemians at Tallaght Stadium while Dundalk travel to Sligo.

 

Cork City host Galway United in their first home game and Bray host Finn Harps as they return to Friday night football after a year's experiment with Saturday evenings.

 

Drogheda United host St Patrick's Athletic in their first home game while Derry City will host their first Sunday afternoon game in Buncrana with Limerick at Maginn Park.

 



In the First Division, Cobh Ramblers will welcome Wexford Youths on Saturday evening in a battle between two sides who will expect to compete for promotion next season.

 

The newly-branded Waterford (formerly Waterford United) will begin their season with a trip to Athlone Town.

 

Shelbourne will hope for the same as they host last season's bottom-placed side, while UCD open their account with a trip across South Dublin to Cabinteely.
