Harps re-sign Gallagher as McNamee bids farewell

Finn Harps have announced that goalkeeper Ciaran Gallagher has signed back with the club, bringing Ollie Horgan’s squad for 2017 so far to six players.

Gallagher made his senior debut for Harps two days after his seventeenth birthday, in April 2009, as a second-half substitute for Gavin Cullen against Sporting Fingal before signing a two-year contract extension with Harps.

Despite making just five league appearances in 2010, the Raphoe man would then go on to establish himself as Harps first choice goalkeeper as he made 52 appearances in the following two seasons.

Gallagher's five-year stint at Harps came to an end as he signed for Derry City ahead of the 2014 season. However, he would make just three appearances as he deputised first choice goalkeeper Ger Doherty.

In November 2014, Gallagher re-joined Finn harps, keeping 17 clean sheets in 32 league and play-off fixtures in 2015 as Harps were promoted to the Premier Division.

Gallagher signed back with Harps for the 2016 Premier Division season and competed for the position of first choice goalkeeper with Richard Brush throughout the season as Harps finished tenth.

Harps manager Ollie Horgan told the Finn Harps website of his delight at re-signing a player who has been key to Harps success over the past two seasons.

“I’m very pleased to have Ciaran on board again. He has been a key player for me over the past two seasons.”

It was also confirmed earlier on Monday that midfielder Tony McNamee has signed for Swilly Rovers after two seasons at Finn Harps, where he made 60 appearances.
