Derry City confirm the return of Mark Timlin

Derry City have confirmed that winger Mark Timlin has returned to the club following a year in Dublin with St Patrick's Athletic. The club also confirmed that 18-year-old defender Scott Whiteside has signed a one-year extension.

The 22-year-old has signed an initial one-year deal with the option of a second should he enjoy a successful season.

The former Ipswich Town trainee moved to Dublin at the start of the season in search of a new challenge but returns to a Candystripes team on the up having qualified for Europe.

In a further fortuitous twist, the Buncrana native could see his side play their games at Maginn Park in his hometown as the Brandywell looks set to be closed for the season for renovations.

“When the opportunity came to come back and work with Kenny (Shiels), I just jumped at it,” Timlin told the club's official website.

“I wasn’t happy with my return last season even though I still got into double figures.

“I want that to be a recurring factor for me that I’m always in double figures and hopefully I can push on this season.

“I’m delighted to be back and I’m looking forward to the new season.

“I’m sure Kenny is looking to get another few players in, but there are some serious young players coming through here and hopefully they can push on again next year.”

Timlin made 36 appearances in all competitions for the Saints, scoring 11 times, including eight in the league.
