Shamrock Rovers re-sign experienced defender Webster

Shamrock Rovers have announced the re-signing of defender Dave Webster for the 2017 season.

Webster, who hails from nearby Firhouse, returns for a third season at Tallaght Stadium having joined from Bray Wanderers in early 2015 after seven seasons at the Carlisle Grounds.

The 27-year-old has played much of his football for the Hoops at centre-half, but was deployed as an auxiliary midfielder by new permanent boss Stephen Bradley in the latter half of last season.

He made 21 league appearances, including 19 starts, and four appearances in the cups during 2016.

“I am delighted that David has signed a new contract at the club,” Bradley told the club's website.

“He sees his future here and so do we.

“I am aware that David had other offers to consider which does not surprise me as he is a very good footballer and an excellent defender.

“He is the right age for us. I know that David has more in him and has more to give Shamrock Rovers and we will see that next season.

He is versatile and can play in a number of positions; he played number 6 for us last season and did well. David is another quality addition to our 2017 squad.”

Webster's signing brings to 15 the number of players signed up for the Hoops.
