Cobh Ramblers sign Craig Donnellan from Cork City

Cobh Ramblers have signed Craig Donnellan from Cork City on a permanent basis after the midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at St Colman's Park.

20-year-old Donnellan joined the Rams along with City under-19 teammate Connor Ellis in July and made nine appearances, including seven starts as Stephen Henderson's side reached the FAI Cup quarter-final and the promotion play-off.

The Rams lost the latter tie over two legs to Drogheda United despite reeling back a two-goal first leg deficit at United Park, with Donnellan starting both games.

With experienced midfielder Shane O'Connor leaving the club, Henderson has set out rebuilding his squad for 2017 with the emphasis on youth that brought unexpected success in league and cup last season.

Donnellan fits the bill as the club's first official signing, having helped City win the League of Ireland under-19 trophy in 2015.
