Drogheda and Cobh to contest the First Division promotion play-off

The 2016 First Division promotion play-off will be contested by Drogheda United and Cobh Ramblers after they finished second and third respectively following the league calendar's conclusion.

Drogheda and UCD occupied the two spots going into the final round of fixtures on Saturday night, however the Boynesider's win over the Students and Cobh's win at Athlone Town saw the Rams snatch third place.

Stephen Henderson's Ramblers will host Drogheda at St Colman's Park in the first leg on either Friday, October 21 or Saturday, October 22.

The return leg will see Pete Mahon's Drogs play host to the Rams at United Park on Friday, October 28.

The winner will face the side that finishes 11th in the Premier Division – currently Wexford Youths – over two legs to determine the final club to contest the 12-team top division in 2017.

Those games will take place on Monday, October 31 and Friday, November 4.

All dates will be confirmed by the FAI in due course.
