Dylan Watts signs for Leicester City

Leicester City have confirmed the signing of midfielder Dylan Watts from UCD for an undisclosed fee.

19-year-old Watts has signed a two-year-deal with the English Premier League champions after impressing for the Students in the First Division.

Dubliner Watts joined UCD from St Kevin's Boys two years ago, having started out with St Joseph's Boys in Sallynoggin, and has gained considerable experience in senior football in the interim.

He was part of the Students side that competed in Europa League qualification in 2015, starting all four of College's games as they memorably beat F91 Dudelange of Luxembourg.

Watts made 36 league appearances for the Students in one-and-a-half years in the First Division, scoring four times, and picked up six caps for the Republic of Ireland under-19 team.

"I'm really looking forward to the challenges ahead,” Watts said.

“It is a big opportunity for me, and it is brilliant to be joining the Premier League champions.

“I'd like to thank Collie [O'Neill], Pat [Devlin] and Evan [McMillan] for giving me my opportunity in the first team and I owe a lot to them for believing in me at such a young age.

“Also to the players and all the staff around UCD who were fantastic during my time there."

Manager Collie O'Neill added: "Dylan is one of the best players I've ever had the pleasure of working with, technically very good with good quick feet.

“He's made great strides in the last 2 years from not being a regular in our under-19s to being one of the first names I put on the teamsheet for the first team.

“If he continues to make the same progression, then there's no reason why he can't eventually make his premiership debut."
