Lyons chooses Wanderers over Drogheda

Bray Wanderers have announced the signing of striker Chris Lyons following his release from Sligo Rovers.

The Dubliner had been due to sign for Drogheda United, with the news announced last week by the Louth club, but the deal wasn't called off before a contract was signed.

Lyons has instead opted to return for a second spell at the Carlisle Grounds, having spent the 2015 season with the Seagulls before opting for full-time football in Sligo.

The 23-year-old began his League of Ireland career with UCD and spent time with Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers B before making his mark in the Premier Division with Bray.

“Drogheda United will not be signing Chris Lyons with the forward having agreed terms with Bray Wanderers,” the Boynesiders confirmed on Twitter.

“A verbal agreement had been in place with a view to a contract signing this evening but the Dubliner has since joined the Seagulls.”
