Poland name final Euro 2016 squad

Injured duo Maciej Rybus and Pawel Wszolek are among the casualties as Poland national coach Adam Nawalka revealed his final Euro 2016 squad today.

Goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton, defender Pawel Dawidovicz and striker Artur Sobiech were the remaining omissions as coach Nawalka whittled his initial 28 man squad down to the final 23. Nawalka sympathised with the players saying, “I would like to thank Przemek, Pawel and Artur for having been with us. I hope they will have their fingers crossed for the team.”

Nawalka will be heavily reliant upon the experience and striking prowess of Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski along with midfield stalwarts Jakub Blaszczykowski and Grzegorz Krychowiak. There is also places for the exciting young midfielders, Piotr Zielinski, 22, and Bartosz Kapustka, 19, who are widely tipped to make a big impression in France this summer.

There are also places for hard working midfield stalwarts Jakub Blaszczykowski and Grzegorz Krychowiak as well established goalkeepers Lukasz Fabianski and Wojciech Szczseny and Borussia Dortmund’s versatile full-back Lukasz Piszczek.

Nawalka was pleased with his squad’s preparation so far saying, “We worked hard during our two training camps in Poland. We had marvellous conditions here, and I hope all we need to do in France is tidy up some details.”

Poland will be hoping to get their EURO 2016 preparations off to a positive start when they take on the Netherlands on Wednesday evening and pick up where they left off in March – with an impressive 5-0 win over Finland. Poland’s final warm-up match will be against Lithuania on 6th June before they meet Northern Ireland in their opening Group C fixture on 12th June in Nice.
