Wexford Youths UEFA Women's Champions League campaign came to an end today.

The Continental Tyres Women’s National League Champions finished second in Group 7 but failed to secure a spot in the Round of 32. The Youths won 2 of their 3 qualifiers but unfortunately, the loss versus Medyk Konin on Thursday gave the hosts the top spot and the only place in the next round.

Today the Youths finished their campaign in style as they beat Welsh champions Cardiff Met 5 - 1. Carol Breen shone bright for the Youths as she opened the scoring on the 3rd minute. Breen doubled her tally on the sixth, thanks to a rebound from a Claire O'Riordan's shot. Youngster Becky Cassin bagged herself a goal on the 30th minute before Breen marked a hat trick on the 42nd minute.

Cardiff managed to score a consolation goal on the 60th minute through Captain Emily Allen but Breen extended the Youths lead again on the 80th minute when she scored the final goal of the game.

Speaking to the FAI after the game, Will Doyle stated "We have to switch on for the league campaign now and we want to retain that title and have another opportunity to play at this level next year."
