Wexford Youths to kick off UEFA Women's Champions League campaign in Poland

Wexford Youths travelled to Poland this morning, as they began their quest to qualify for this seasons UEFA Women's Champions League knock out stages. The Youths were drawn as third seeds in Group 7 in June and were handed a tough draw as 2 of the 3 teams they are set to play reached the knockout stages in the 2014/2015 season.

Hosts KKPL Medyk Konin of Poland are placed as second seeds within the group and progressed to the Round of 32 in their last campaign. Whilst, Gintra Universitetas of Lithuanian are first seeds within the group and progressed as far as the Round of 16. Other contenders within the group, Cardiff Met Ladies FC of Wales are placed as fourth seeds. However, Cardiff have previously competed in a UEFA women’s Champions League qualifying campaign in 2012/2013 season but failed to reached the knockout stages.

The Youths will be making their debut in Europe after winning the Continental Tyres Women’s National League last season and will be hoping to relish the same success previous Irish representatives Peamount United and Raheny United had in the competition.

The Youths kick off their campaign tomorrow Tuesday August 11th versus Lithuanian side Gintra Universitetas at 2:30pm (Irish time). Keep up to date with all the action on Extratime.ie
